The Trojan Horse

  • The Greeks and the Trojans were fighting because the Trojans kidnapped the wife of the King of Sparta, Helen.
  • The war was going on for over 10 years and neither side was able to win.
  • Greeks tried so hard to get over the wall of Troy but failed every time.
  • The Greek King Odysseus came up with plan. The Greeks would build a big wooden horse able to hold 30 greek soldiers. The Horse would be presented to the Trojans as a gift representing their defeat in the war.
  • The night when the Greeks presented the Horse the Trojans, the Trojans partied all day celebrating their victory over the Greeks.
  • After all the Trojans had fallen asleep the 30 men who were hidden inside of the Horse came out to open the gates of Troy to let in the Greek army. The Greeks attacked that night and won the war over the Trojans

  • This type of myth is an example of Hubris/Punishment. This is because the Trojans let their guard down, celebrating arrogantly their victory over the Greeks. The Greeks out smarted them and punished them for their excessive pride and won the 10 year war. If the Trojans had not let their guard down there may have been a chance they could have won the war. They were punished for their haughty actions and lost the war shamefully.

  • The purpose of this myth is to teach people to never let your guard down and do not trust your enemies. Win with a sense of respect and with out excessive pride and arrogance. If you do show excessive pride and arrogance you will be punished just like the trojans had been.

  • The modern connection of the Trojan Horse is the Trojan horse virus. The trojan horse virus is an email virus released by an email attachment. If opened it will take over your computer.
